On September 11th my husband and oldest daughter went to downtown Phoenix to remember the people who died on that very sad and horrific day. The City of Phoenix Fire and Police departments along with the folks of Chase Financial had fire fighters, police officers and their families climb the 37 stories of Chase Tower which happens to be the tallest building in Arizona. Each person was given an NYPD officer or fire fighter's name and photo to carry with them on the climb. We started climbing at 6:02am which would have been 9:02am New York time. The time that the second plane hit the second twin tower. My husband was in full uniform as well as many officers and fire fighters. Some fire fighters were in full gear which included the oxygen tank strapped to their backs. There was no A/C in the stairwell so you can imagine the how hot the fire fighters got while climbing the stairs.
It was an amazing experience and I was over come with thoughts of that day and of the families who lost loved ones and of the police officers and fire fighters who lost their lives doing a job that they loved. Next time you see a police officer or a fire fighter be sure that you thank them because for the most part they do a thankless job that we as citizen take for granted.
I graduated with my bachelor of arts degree from the University of Arizona. After graduation I moved to Phoenix where I was hired as graphic designer for the City of Phoenix.
