Doing research on famous artist

6/20/2011

I was doing research last week on famous artist and how they got that way.  The artist that I looked up was Andy Warhol.  I knew very little about this artist other then him being famous for his portraits of famous stars such as Marylin Monroe.  Andy believed in working hard and he made the right connections.  He was the first artist to create prints of his artwork through mass production in his studio that he named the Factory.  Andy embraced the mundane and the status quo of everyday life and he shows this in his art by repeating the same object on canvas or by painting a mundane object such as a can of soup.

What I found very interesting was that even though he embraced everyday objects his style of painting gave that object a new look which made it different and interesting.  Andy wasn't the first to do pop art but he made pop art famous by just throwing himself out there.  Being what was considered odd and eccentric back in the 1940's and 50's help too.   If Andy were alive today he would probably be considered normal.
